My Students Are Brilliant (but they don't know it)
Listening to my students play and sing, I can clearly hear that a lot of them have beautiful voices, sound great on the guitars or others play drums perfectly in time but yet they consider themselves amateurs and don't have the confidence to abandon this belief.
The problem usually isn't the lack of talent or starting too late, but motivation to practice.
Motivation comes from the purpose behind doing what we're doing.
In order to have it and not burn out practising mindlessly on autopilot, we need to find some way to share our gift.
Whether it is on the Internet sharing your progress with people who are like you and want to start learning, at home with your family or at the local open mic, finding ways to output what you have learned is crucial.
There are a lot of false boundaries in our thinking and limiting beliefs about what we are allowed to share and where, whether we are good enough to perform or not.
Do not underestimate the value of shared joy and passion.
That itself can inspire others, in sharing it motivates you to practise and makes playing much more fun and meaningful.
